After six monthly gruelling freerolls on PokerStars, the six winners met for the short-handed final on Tuesday evening 31 July 2007, all in with a shot of Living The Dream.
Up for grabs on the night was a $2,500 prize pool, and for first place, the biggest prize PokerPlayer has ever given away: money-can’t-buy training from Greg Raymer and a $10,000 bankroll.
The winner may choose what discipline he or she wants to be trained in – cash play or tournaments – and their bankroll will be fed to them over six months, during which time they’ll get personal tuition from the 2004 WSOP World Champion Greg Raymer.
The freerolls attracted close to 1,000 players each, so it was no mean feat to reach final, and the six participants were understandably nervous.
Each player received $2,500 in chips, blinds began at $10/$20 and the levels were set at a sedate 15 minutes per level.
NIB88 aka Nicholas Bunn built an early, if slender chip lead and never looked back. Sean Kho was the first player to be knocked out, after he struggled to get into the game.
The remaining five players played some solid poker, before a flurry of bust-outs saw 3ENGLAND, chabbby36 and blackpuma909 depart to the virtual rail.
That left NIB88 and d666diablo to contest the heads-up battle. They began well matched in chips, and the lead and momentum swayed to and fro for a good 20 minutes, before NIB88 was able to land the fatal blow and scoop first place prize.
He now goes on to receive the prize of a lifetime, and don't forget we will follow his progress over the next six months from freeroll winner to (hopefully) poker superstar!
We'll also be posting some video from the opening stages of the final, so do check back for that.
Final results:
1. NIB88, $10,000 + one-on-one tuition from Greg Raymer

3. blackpuma909, $600
4. chabby36, $400
5. 3ENGLAND $300
