World Series of Poker
Brits at WSOP

Jon 'Skalie' Kalmar heads up 21 British players still contesting the 2007 WSOP $10,000 Main Event

British players are continuing to fly the flag over in Las Vegas at the Rio Hotel and Casino, at the 2007 World Series of Poker.

At the last count, following the conclusion of Day 4, 21 Brits are still left in the Main Event, out of a total of 347 runners after the Day 3.

One notable performer is Jon 'Skalie' Kalmar, from Chorley, Lancashire, who has 1,410,000 chips and is in 3rd position.

Chip leader at this stage is Italian player Dario Minieri on 2,398,000, with Day 3 leader Gus Hansen, despite losing chips, still nestled in at 1,044,000.

Other UK stalwarts taking it deep into the fourth day are Willie Tann and Julian Gardner, who both have about half-a-million and are going well.

All this means 6-7% of the field are British players, which is a pretty good showing, and hopes for the biggest prize in poker coming to the UK are running strong.

The Main Event tournament began on 6 July and will run through until 17 July, when the final table will convene.

The $10,000 No Limit Hold'em World Championship Event #55 has attracted 6,358 players who have contributed to a total prizepool of $59,784,954, with a first placed prize of $8.25 million.
