The flop comes 10-9-3 rainbow and everyone checks to me. I’ve got a nice draw but I decide that if I don’t bet here and I hit my hand I’m going to get called by anyone with 6-7, 7-J or two-pair. However, if I make a bet someone could make a big overbet, and I don’t want to be calling with just J-Q, even though I do have position. I decide to check.
The next card brings an Eight [giving Marc the nut straight] and it’s still rainbow. The guy in third position makes a pot-size bet of 1200. I raise another 1500 on the button. He moves all-in for another 18,500 and I call.
He has trip Tens and misses his full house on the river. He checked a set of Tens when he was winning and stuck all his money in when he was behind. You have to know that no matter how strong your hand is you could easily be in trouble with that flop and six players in the pot
. He trap- checked it and when the Eight came – one of the worst possible cards for him – he wanted to stick all his chips in. I deliberately made a raise that looked like I was trying to knock him off his hand. He said, ‘I was trying to knock you off your draw.’ Someone else said that my hand wasn’t a bad draw at all!
