De Wolfe’s tips for avoiding tilt at the virtual poker tables

Considering that Roland de Wolfe prefers playing online to live, we asked for a few insights on the virtual game. ‘It’s easier to steal, but it’s hard to get really good game selection,’ he says, comparing playing online to live. ‘You also need to be aware of the steam factor online. It’s easier to do [in front of your computer than in a casino] because no one is watching you.

Plus the money is less tangible and the beats hurt you more.’ The idea, of course, is to keep your game consistent and to not allow the constantly fl uctuating state of your bankroll to infl uence the way you play. De Wolfe has a very low-tech solution for achieving this: ‘I just stick something on the screen so that I don’t know my balance. It keeps your mindset focused on the right way to play. Otherwise you’re thinking of the $4,000 you just dropped and the importance of not losing the next hand.’
