There will be a woman winning it very shortly, trust me. A woman – Vicky Coren – won the London EPT recently.
And the reaction was that she got lucky…
A lot of men can’t accept the fact that women can beat them. I get bashed a lot – if I win at poker, for my charity work. Sometimes I feel like I’m the target. I used to take it personally, now I just do what I think is right.
And you think you can be an inspiration to other women?
I hope so. In Asia the man has always been very dominant, but I want women to look at things in a different way. I work 16 hours a day, mainly playing poker online, and I’ve been trying to update my fans on everything I’m doing by responding to emails. They’re really appreciative, and that makes me want to work even more. If they see more women compete and play strongly I think they’ll be inspired to change.
Where can our readers find you playing?
I play at the Bellagio in Vegas and the Commerce Club in Los Angeles, and you can find me playing on PokerStars as Liz Lieu. I tried to get the site to change my name – there’s a picture of me up there, too – but they won’t do it.
