2. START TIGHT Play really, really tight early on. Limp in with small pairs in the first couple of levels in the hope of flopping a set and doubling through. Conversely, because players do like to limp and call a lot in low stakes STTs, you can exploit them. If you have a decent hand, you can simply raise in position and either take the pot down immediately or force them to check-fold to a bet on the flop.
3. KEEP IT CHEAP If you miss a flop, only bet if you think your opponent is weak and you have position to take down a small pot, otherwise try to play pots as cheaply as possible. Conserve chips for the later stages.
4. LOOSEN UP Once the blinds are bigger – usually when they reach the 100/200 level and you have less than 10 times the big blind – you should start moving all-in with even marginal holdings from early to mid position. The tournament will probably be about six-handed at that point. Forcing players to fold and scooping the blinds is very profitable at this stage.
5. EXPLOIT THE BUBBLE You have to abuse the other players’ fears of going out on the bubble. Smaller stacks cannot call without the top premium hands, so keep pushing in with almost any two cards. Even if they call you can still suck out.
