Thank you WSOPE

As the World Series of Poker Europe shuts up shop, a few thoughts:

1. I got to meet Doyle Brunson. What a nice bloke - THE MAN and basically a walking history of the game. OK he's getting on a bit, and he struggles with stairs, but he's still sharp and with it, and I wouldnt fancy playing against him. Also got him to sign his new book for my one-month-old son - chuffed.

2. The Casino at the Empire is a cracking venue. It's the peerless location. Or maybe the mini dancing fountains. Or maybe the driest of Japanese beers Asahi on draught. Or the 6am gambling and bar licence. The poker room needs a bit of work tho.

3. 356 runners for the Main Event. Not great, but you have to start somewhere. The Americans seem to have enjoyed coming over and Betfair are in it for the long run, as their sponsorship deal is a 5-year one.

4. Office Sit and Go with Annie Duke. I missed it unfortunately, but apparently she's a fish. Allegedly.

5. Strong winner of the Main Event. Take a bow Annette Obrestad. Youngest ever bracelet winner, so young in fact she can't legally play in the US. Destroying online MTTs and now a huge live win under her belt. She's quiet and shy, watch the imagemakers go to work.

6. Matthew Carter aka Spazmong. PokerPlayer reader wins freeroll and seat for the £10,000 Main Event. A few weeks later it's Day 3 and he's on the feature table sat next to his hero Daniel Negreanu, staring over at Hansen and Antonius. Not only that, he held his own, going out on the wrong end of a coin flip. What a shame we only got a PokerPlayer branded polo shirt, (now known as the polo shirt of death), to him minutes before he got knocked out, just short of the money. Arse.

Ah yes, Pokerplayer shirts, it seems they all carry a curse. I put on mine to bring me luck at the inaugral APAt live event in Birmingham, then "BOOOM", I am busted by Quads. Made the write up though, lol.
